Pernell Ponder Jr.

Pernell Ponder, Jr was born October 21, 1997 to the special parents of Pernell Ponder Sr and Ruby Curry. Pernell is also the proud husband of his beautiful wife Jalynn Ponder who inspires him to keep creating and pursing. Music has been in Pernell’s blood since birth from his parents, and grandparents being heavily involved in quartet and other ensembles. Pernell knew there was always a music ability in him, but out of 5 siblings he was the last to pick up an instrument in which he pursued drums like his father. Pernell is a native of Fort Lauderdale, FL where he attended and is a proud alumni of the Dillard high school class of 2017 where he studied Jazz band and was actively a part of the Dillard high marching band (The Force). Pernell currently attends Grand Canyon University where he is studying business. While being home in fort lauderdale, Pernell has had the privilege of playing for various artists in south florida such as Desmond Jackson and Sovereign, Trayon Gaskin, and Dwight Moment. Pernell was also a humble servant at his local church (Kingdom Builders Worship Center) where he served under the leadership of his Pastor, Dr. Cheryl Powell where she helped to cultivate his gifts spiritually. Later in 2019, Pernell began singing with recording artist Antwaun Cooks and started traveling with what he considers his favorites ``ACM'' . As Pernell's journey continues later down the road he made a life changing shift by following the voice of God to Orlando, FL July 21st, 2020 during the peak of covid. While this was a hard task and pill to swallow, Pernell obeyed the voice of God. Pernell was introduced to a whole different world and atmosphere of music where he began serving at The Experience Christian Center under the leadership of Bishop Derrick McRae. For 3 years Pernell has served as the drummer, psalmist, and youth leader at The Experience Christian Center. Later following the voice again... the Lord transitioned Pernell and alongside him his wife (Jalynn) transitioned from The Experience Christian Center to Truth International Church under the leadership of Apostle Andre and Pastor Jocelyn Williams. Pernell knew that there was a deeper call for him beyond being on the drums and he knew that his writing ability began to heighten. He wrote his first song entitled, “I Still Believe” which was released on September 15th, 2023 along with his friends: Producer Josh Orr and featuring Antwaun Cooks and Keon Halloway. This has been a journey for Pernell thus far and he looks to continue to make impacts with his music for generations to come. Pernell favorite scripture and, Galatians 6:9; “Let us not be weary in well doing for in due season we shall reap if we faint not”. Pernell quotes, “Life may throw a hard curveball but we must live to see it come alive”.
